Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny was originally released in 1992 from developer Attic Entertainment Software and publisher Sir-Tech Software. This remake from Crafty Studios includes user-contributed content, more encounters, updated graphics, an improved user interface, extended music selection, and enhanced sound.

Players lead a party of adventurers on a quest to locate the legendary Blade of Destiny and protect the fantasy realm of Arkania from an Orc invasion. Exploration is viewed from a first-person perspective while the turn-based battles feature a third-person viewpointBased on the German pen-and-paper game The Dark Eye, character classes include Warrior, Rogue, Dwarf, Thorwalian, Hunter, Magician, Leaf Elf, Silvan Elf, Ice Elf, Witch, and Druid.

There are more than 50 spells for magic users to choose from while melee and ranged combatants can become proficient in a variety of weapon types, such as swords, axes, spears, and bows. Each character is also rated in 14 attributes: courage, cleverness, charisma, dexterity, agility, intuition, strength, superstition, fear of heights, claustrophobia, greed, fear of the dead, curiosity, and violent temper.
